You are …. years old TODAY!

If you have lived in Melbourne, you know the weather is very unpredictable here. We are already in Winter!  We wake up to one-degree mornings these days (oh yes, it is very cold!). I was pretty caught up with life past few weeks and haven’t had a chance to pen anything for you. So today I am going to tell you a story of two beautiful women I met at one of my story walks in one morning.

Despite the chilly morning weather, the Sun was slowly claiming its rightful place in the sky. I was on my morning walk. I like to listen to a podcast or an audio book while I walk. It feels great when you multitask (sometimes). I was on my way to my usual walking track and when I turned the corner of the street, there was an old lady on her morning walk. She was in her eighties (my guess or may be older) with a walker, slowly walking on the foot path. I slowed down. She seemed little frail and obviously slow; my initial thought was wow! I was very impressed. Isn’t that amazing this old lady making an effort to come out of her house in this weather to walk even a short distance to keep herself healthy and fit? I was way behind her, and I wasn’t in a rush, so I chose not to walk pass her. Besides I was in total awe of this amazing woman. Few seconds passed and I think she sensed someone behind her, so she turned and smiled. I greeted her good morning. “Good morning, dear” she said. Then she moved to a side. “Please go ahead, it takes forever with this walker.” I walked pass her and said thank you, and she continued her slow walk behind me.

Then I was at the next corner turning to another street, there she was, a young woman in her early twenties (I am pretty sure I got that right). In her activewear running toward me, she looked so healthy, fit and active, she smiled and ran pass me like a bolt of thunder. It was a spilt few seconds’ interaction. I was even more impressed. Wow! Three of us women, one in her twilight years, one in their youth and me, somewhere in between. Three of us are on our own journey, yet if you think about it, we three are a resemblance of anyone’s journey in a lifetime! I was that active young woman once so was the old lady I met; the old lady was in my age may be many moons ago. We all are either have been there or living life at the moment whatever the age we are.

I do not mean to drop this upon you as a negative connotation. Meeting those beautiful women on that day have made me realise, I once was that young woman, and I will be that old woman one day, and the beauty of it is that today will be the youngest day I will ever be in my life…

Let me say it again for you. Today is the youngest age you will ever be in YOUR LIFE! Do you get that? We are not going to get any younger than we are today…

So, what does that mean for you? Does it mean we all are going to get old (or not old enough) and die one day (which is of cause inevitable) or does it mean, wow I am today years old! How cool is that? When I asked that question from myself, I was so mesmerised with the thought that I am today years old! It reminded me of not to put on hold the things that I love to do.  If you are reading this, ask yourself, what does it mean to be today years old for YOU?

I think it is time to be brave and be bold and embrace the beautiful you and go do the things you love to do, the things you keep postponing.; make memories with your loved ones, go do what you really want to do in your life, write that book, make that change, go explore the world, walk away from that relationship that doesn’t work,  love more,  laugh more, put down the laptop and have a break, be bold, be brave and live a little more every day.

Realising you are today years old has liberated me from my “I am too busy shackles”. When you know that you will not be in this age again in this life time, it helps you to prioritise what’s impotent for you. It helps you to choose wisely. Because the best commodity we have in life is not money, it is our time. So, it is up to each one of us to use our time wisely.

So, my friend, no matter how old you are, know that you are today years old, and you still have time. That is enough reminder for you to go live your life to the fullest. xoxo
